Overview

The UCSC Chemistry and Biochemistry Department offers dynamic degree programs tailored to your goals.

Choose a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry for a direct path to industry or as a foundation for advanced graduate studies. Opt for a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Chemistry if you’re exploring interdisciplinary fields like environmental science, health sciences, or chemical physics—or if you aspire to become a high school teacher. Both programs emphasize core chemical principles and offer opportunities for hands-on research.

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) B.S. program features an integrated curriculum spanning biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, with options for advanced specialization.

For students majoring in other disciplines, a minor in Chemistry provides a strong complementary foundation.
